Recordings from the early to mid 1960s. The edition pressed on clear vinyl with a gatefold sleeve.
An excellent introduction to the Skatalites, the best ska band that ever or will ever exist. Unlike most compilations of their music, this hefty set is all instrumentals recorded for Duke Reid in Jamaica--which means they showcase the players as a band, rather than a backing band.
The group did have something of a revolving cast of legendary players, and in that vein continues touring in the present day. In the heyday captured on these discs, that lineup included trombonist Don Drummond, saxophonists Roland Alphonso and Tommy McCook, bassist Lloyd Knibb, and keyboardist Jackie Mittoo.
