LP originally released in 1973. Bonus tracks recorded ca. 1968-1974.
Producer: Lee Perry
The Silvertones: Carl Grant, Delroy Denton, Keith Coley
Musicians: Hux Brown, Ansel Collins, Ranchie McLean, Anthony Creary, Horsemouth Wallace.
"Silver Bullets" is alleged to have been recorded in one day, but provides its own map of reggae's musical evolution at the time--from the early reggae stylings of "He'll Break Your Heart" to the smoky, soul-flavored roots of "Rejoice Jah Jah Children." As such the album reflected Lee Perry's considerable evolution as a producer, and features some of the earliest recordings from Perry's Black Ark Studio.
This long overdue reissue takes that variety a step further, compiling all of The Silvertones' known sides produced by Lee Perry. It's a treat for collectors and fans, but the trio's energy, skill, and adventurous spirit, along with the haunting baritone of lead singer Delroy Denton, make this recommended for all listeners.
