Recorded at D&B Sound, Silver Spring, MD. Much classic material on this LP which awakened a much larger audience to Gil's message.
"Johannesburg" was a bona fide hit single, performed memorably along with "Lovely Day" on Saturday Night Live with Richard Pryor as guest host. "South Carolina" also ranks among Scott-Heron's hardest-hitting tunes, lamenting the toxic impact of Barnwell County's nuclear and chemical plants.
