A: You'll find a number of tools to make browsing and shopping easy, but the best of them is the search bar at the top of the page. Type in any artist, musician, instrument, genre, label, etc. to get the most complete results for whatever you're interested in.
A: We sell records from all eras in all genres (plus a few videos and books) by artists native to the DC area, artists who settled permanently in the DC area, and transient artists who had a distinct and impactful “DC period” in their careers. We also offer a few landmark records that were either famously recorded in DC, or directly inspired by the city. In many cases, you’ll find details of the DC connection in product descriptions and artist bios. In all cases, we look for music and editions that have and will continue to hold up over time.
A: Our catalog is a work in progress, and we'd love to hear about anything we might be missing--please drop a line using the "contact us" form. Bear in mind, many of the best local artists simply don't make it a priority to release records or CDs, opting to focus on doing shows, downloads, and distributing hard copies themselves. We encourage listeners to support them by those means as well!
A: It’s not a second-hand shop, but we do have a few used records. We focus on used records that fit within our DC- and reggae-centric catalog, are in great condition, not otherwise available, and affordable—priced in the same range as our new products. We do not sell damaged, defective, or incomplete items, cut-outs, or items personalized by previous owners.
—NM: Near Mint. It looks and sounds like a new record with the shrink wrap removed.
—VG+: Very Good plus. You can tell it’s not new, but can tell just as easily it’s been well cared for. Sure to please all but the very pickiest collectors.
—VG: Very Good. Shows a bit more age and handling, but still free of damage and major defects.
And that’s it. There’s a longer list of record grades, but we don’t sell anything that doesn’t meet those standards. Rest assured that all used products are thoroughly checked and tested prior to being offered for sale.
A: As a rule, pictures are taken directly from our products on hand, with some exceptions. As a rule, sound and video previews are not taken from our products on hand, with some exceptions. The preview files are carefully sourced for accuracy, but vary in quality. They should not be taken to reflect the true sound or video quality of the products we offer.
A: As a rule, no. All sales and transfers of goods are final. But don’t panic—if there’s a problem with your order, just let us know, and we’ll get it solved.
A: Because every city needs that. Just our opinion.
