If you wanted to, you could fill an entire shop with re-issue compilations of Lee Perry's work, or even just his recordings at Black Ark studio that never saw release outside Jamaica. Many have become classic LP's in their own right.
But despite the relative obscurity of the tracks selected for "Voodooism"--a selection overseen by the Upsetter himself--it's hard to think of any one disc that so completely conveys what was special about the Black Ark.
The sounds range from the spare and edgy title track to the verdant, swirling psychedelia of Zap Pow's "River". Overall it's a brilliant portrait of a revolutionary music maker in his prime.
