Me'Shell NdegéOcello (nee Michelle Lynn Johnson) was raised in Washington, DC and attended the Duke Ellington School for the Performing Arts, as well as Oxon Hill High School. A prodigy on electric bass, Me'shell honed her skills gigging with DC go-go bands including Little Benny & The Masters and Rare Essence, along with countless other local artists in a variety of genres.
Since launching a successful solo career, Me'shell has collaborated with no less than Herbie Hancock, Prince, Chaka Khan, the Rolling Stones, and Madonna.
