Levitate The Heavy Part was recorded in front of a 70-person live audience at Tonal Park in Takoma, MD.

This album is heavily informed by Sound Awareness, a concept championed by the late Brother Ah (Robert Northern), another D.C. French horn player rooted in creative music. As Brother Ah told the Washington Post in 2017, Sound Awareness is an understanding that all forms of sound are valid expressions of music: "Every entity on Earth is communicating through sound. Every animal, every bird, every insect. And if we hear it, we can be a part of it."

Additionally, Levitate The Heavy Part is indebted to Mamet's countless inspirations and predecessors, including and especially Jaimie Branch, Ron Miles, Joe Bonner, Don Cherry, Julius Watkins, Daniel Carter, diasporic Jewish music, the mountains, ceramic arts, and D.C. Gospel recorded on the Mark independent record label during the ‘60s and ‘70s.

This edition is pressed on marbled mixed-color vinyl, and comes in a numbered, hand-made mixed media jacket (screenprint, linocut, and monoprint).
