Best known to music fans as the back-flipping lead guitarist of Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band, Nils Lofgren grew up in Bethesda, MD, sort of attending Walter Johnson high school. One of hsi first writing credits was for the TV and radio commercial theme for the Joon Rhee self-defense studios.

In 1968, the still-teenage Lofgren was playing with his DC-based band Grin at the Cellar Door, where he met Neil Young, which led to a record deal for Grin and ultimately a role in Young's Crazy Horse collective. His association witgh Young has continued into the 2020's.

In addition to sesison work and touring, Lofgren released a series of solo albums beginning in 1974, and from 1984-1989 was lead guitarist in the E Street Band. He continues to perform and record as a solo artist, bandleader, and band member.
