Roy Clark was born in Meherrin, VA, and grew up in the Navy Yard area of DC, where he began his professional career in the 1950s. Impressing with his guitar, banjo, and fiddle prowess, Clark played local clubs and joined regional and national touring acts, and landed a regular gig on Jimmy Dean's "Town And Country Time" TV and radio show, starting in 1954. In 1960, Wanda Jackson hired Clark as her lead guitarist, and that spurred his rise to one of the leading performers and personalities in the the world of country music.
