Dubbed "The Godfather of Go-Go", Chuck Brown is credited with being the driving force behind the creation of DC's official music. A hitmaker in the latin, soul, funk, and disco genres, around the turn of the 80s Brown decided to slow down the frenetic disco beat and keep the groove rolling continuously, as a way to keep dancers on their feet amid the hot and swampy conditions of his hometown. The result was Go-Go. Brown was a gifted and original guitarist, singer and arranger, whose calling card was performing traditional pop and jazz tunes using the go-go rhythm, seasoned with his trademark scat-guitar solos.
