Formed in 1978 and active up through the present day, Trouble Funk is another of those pillars of the House of Go-Go that have become not just family affairs, but dynasties. Through the decades they have been the torch-bearers for the classic-funk flavor of Go-Go, spiced with breaks, horns, and dynamic group singing. But they have just as surely evolved with the times and remain a hot ticket.
Like all Go-Go bands, Trouble Funk’s body of (authorized) recorded work is modest compared to their impact on the DC music scene. In truth, their studio projects with major labels never really captured the brilliance they bring to the stage. But classic records like “Let’s Get Small”, “Trouble Funk Express” and “Pump Me Up” will always stand on their own, aside from being immortalized in who-knows-how-many hip hop samples. And if that's not enough, this record store is named after one of their songs.
